Let's Celebrate (all of the) Holidays!

The Annual Highlights Fiction Contest is coming up! Entries can be up to 800 words and the deadline is 1/31. This year's topic is Holiday.

While Christmas & New Years are top of mind right now, I thought a list of other holidays may be great inspiration for everyone, whether entering the contest or looking for a new idea to start the year.

  1. There is definitely a Donut Day and I think also a Chocolate Ice Cream Day. I love both of them! Thanks for the inspiration and the notice about the contest. It might be time to dust off those tinsel covered cobwebs in my head and on my paper and pen and get to writing! Happy New Year to you too Lauri!

    1. Well, I'm half Polish and my husband's from Buffalo, so Dyngus Day is always top of mind! Hilarious traditions - slapping eachother with pussy willow and pouring water on girls? Simply lovely. There's also a traditional donut, which is clearly the most important part. Happy New Year!

    1. Yep, I was just going to work on a Christmas story, but then I thought maybe they were trying to trick us with the "Holiday" theme. Maybe I'm supposed to write about National Beekeepers Day or something. Happy New Year Penny!

  5. Wow. This will come in very handy. If you have a book out, you can plan your book promo around a particular holiday that best describes your book. For example, Julie panned her Shiver of Sharks book around Shark week. Not really a holiday, but you get the picture. Thanks for sharing, Lauri!

  6. I celebrated Donut Day on my blog -- and in my belly. One of my favorites.

And don't forget Tax Day! 'Cause if you do, you get arrested.
